Sullivan Foundation's Event Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct outlines the Foundation’s expectations and applies to all event attendees, including student participants, professors, facilitators, staff members, volunteers, speakers, and any other guests. Conduct that the Foundation considers unacceptable includes, but is not limited to, the following:

• Use, possession, or distribution of any illegal drug.
• Use, possession, or distribution of alcoholic beverages by anyone under the age of 21, or providing alcoholic beverages to anyone under the age of 21.
• Displays of public intoxication. Alcoholic beverages are NOT allowed at the Ignite Retreat.
• Smoking on facility property.
• Possession of a firearm or weapon.
• Engagement in any form of inappropriate sexual behavior or sexual harassment.
• Harassment, discrimination, or physical aggression toward another attendee.
• Disruption of workshops, sessions, talks, or other events.
• Boisterous, lewd or offensive behavior or language, using sexually explicit or offensive language or conduct, profanity, obscene gestures, or racial, religious or ethnic slurs.
• Violation of any local, state, or federal law.

Sullivan Foundation Statement on Inclusion and Discrimination

The Sullivan Foundation’s programming, awards, fellowships and scholarships are open to all people without regard to race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, and political or social views. The Foundation actively works towards the inclusion of all, and particularly within our programs, seeks to be a place where all are welcome and all views on social and political issues can be heard in a safe and open environment. The Foundation’s role is one that supports college students in their efforts to seek out problems they are passionate about, understand the causes of those problems, and develop solutions for solving or mitigating them. In order to accomplish its role, the Foundation is committed to including all participants in the discussion or debate, even those that hold opposite beliefs.

Our intent is to create an environment where everyone feels safe and respected. At times, our programs ask attendees to share vulnerable parts of their story, and we hope to create a community where those conversations are possible. We ask that our staff and Facilitators/Coaches nurture appropriate spaces for attendees and respect requests for confidentiality.

Unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated. Any attendee asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately. If an attendee engages in unacceptable behavior, the Foundation may take any action it deems appropriate, ranging from issuance of a warning to the offending individual to expulsion from the event without warning or refund and if appropriate involvement of local law enforcement.

If you experience or witness a violation of any local, state, or federal law or an emergency, please contact local law enforcement immediately by dialing 911.

If you have a complaint or concern about harassment, discrimination, bullying, or any other conduct that violates the Code of Conduct, we encourage you to notify a Foundation staff member immediately. If necessary, our team will be happy to help you contact local law enforcement, local support services, or otherwise assist you to feel safe for the duration of the event.
